I've been listening to the radio plays of the Sherlock Holmes stories on BBC Radio 7 recently, with Clive Merrison playing Holmes. They're excellent — anyone dramatising the Holmes stories is forced to invent huge swathes of dialog, and the BBC plays manage to be simultaneously tongue-in-cheek and respectful to Conan Doyle's material. However, listening through the corpus again made me realise that I'd never actually read some of the originals, which are of course available online in a variety of editions from Project Gutenberg.

This time round I read:

• "A Study in Scarlet"
• "The Sign of the Four"
• "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes"
• "The Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes"
• "The Hound of the Baskevilles"
• "The Valley of Death"

... and you don't need me to tell you they're worth reading, I'm sure.
