Nick Hornby's absurdly-popular second novel. It's good romantic-comedy stuff, but there's nothing particularly groundbreaking here. Bought mostly to compare to the film, which I'd happened to see on TV earlier in the year; I conclude that the film was an unusually good conversion.

(Trivia: the film was edited by Mick Audsley, who was a singer-songwriter in the 1970s and produced a couple of albums that are now somewhat sought after by record collectors.)
