If I open myfile 03.avi in MPlayer, I should be able to
seek forwards to myfile 04.avi or backwards to myfile
02.avi, provided they exist in the same directory.
If a filename contains more than one number, then prefer changes in the last (so "series 2, episode 4" goes to "series 2, episode 5" rather than "series 3, episode 4").
