Tales drawn loosely from the author's experiences as an officer in the Gordon Highlanders after the Second World War. Well written and highly entertaining.
Also very obviously an influence on Discworld -- I got the recommendation from the APF, but it goes deeper than that. (There's a lot of McAuslan in Nobby...)
