I see the standard way of reviewing this book is to compare it to Borges. Yes, it's that sort of thing -- amusing, thought-provoking, alternate-world short stories -- but it's written by Ursula Le Guin, so it is of course absolutely brilliant (not to imply that Borges isn't). Definitely worth reading.
